I followed @Engadget and @gdgt’s live coverage of the iPhone keynote today. 

Tim Cook took the stage today to announce the new iPhone 4s

New iOS features:

Notifications show up on the top of your screen and are visible by swiping down.

This new messaging service will push to your iPhone and iPad and you can respond from either device. 

The new Reminders app. 

Newsstand allows you to download your favorite magazines and newspapers for instant access.

The camera is accessible by double tapping the home button and you can use volume up to take a photo. 

There are some noticeable Game Center and Safari app updates, including tabbed browsing on Safari.

The new iOS will be available for download on October 12.

The iCloud - makes it easier for you to stalk your friends too! If your friends have enabled this tracking feature, you can find them quickly and easily. iCloud will be available on October 12.

Annnnddddd, here’s the “BIG” news:

The iPhone 4s looks a lot like it’s predecessor. Same design, and the antenna is still in the same spot. However it does include the A5 processor, “Dual-core CPU, 2x as fast at CPU tasks. Also dual-core graphics. Up to 7x faster in the previous iPhone. One area you really see it scream is in games”. 

The iPhone 4s features an 8mp camera. 

Face detection, much like the imaging software contained in iPhoto for the Mac.

Airplay Mirroring - now you can game from your flat screen.

And probably the most talked about new feature: Siri

You can tell Siri to wake you up at 6am tomorrow morning, and it’ll set your alarm for you.

You’ll have a chance to tell Siri to show you the stocks, or restaurants in your area.

Receive a text while driving and have your bluetooth in? Respond simply by your voice. 

Your friend wants to hang out with you on Friday, ask Siri if you have any plans on Friday after he/she responds yes/no simply say ‘Reply I can do Friday’ and boom, the text is sent. 

Overall, the coolest new feature is definitely Siri. And the faster processor is a great addition, but I think people were expecting a brand new look. I’m interested to see how the iPhone 4s sales will do.

Pre-order on October 7th and the phones will be available on the 14th.
