Your friends may have been posting an urgent status update today on their Facebook profiles that looks something like this:

It’s true, all your mobile phone contacts are now on your Facebook account. Don’t believe me? Check it out:

Sign on to your profile click account -

Then click on edit friends -

Then hit contacts -

You’ll see all your mobile phone contacts (on Facebook or not)… displayed just as they are in your phone.

Here’s the good news:

This information is not displayed on your Facebook profile. And as far as I can tell, no one else can access it.

What’s the bad news?

I am not too sure what Facebook will do with this info in the future. I think they are trying to “help you out” by making your mobile address book accessible online… but it still doesn’t make it right. And it doesn’t make me feel safe.
If someone hacks your account, they will have access to all of your contacts and their phone numbers.

What do you do?

Facebook says: “If you would like to remove your mobile contacts from Facebook, you need to disable the feature on your mobile phone and visit this page.”

To get rid of your contacts you’ll have to unsync your phone with your Facebook. Do this by:

Once you’ve done that, go ahead and click remove (pictured above) and bam… your phone contacts don’t show up on your Facebook page anymore.
