The developers and strategists at Facebook are always looking for new ways to make the major social media site stand out. Their latest feature seems a bit repetitive, and I’m wondering how long it’ll stick around.
Now you can see what your friends are doing in real time… right next to your already “real time” newsfeed. (I’ve blocked out the names and messages because I don’t know if my friends want you reading their info)

The right hand side of the screen is full of the same information as the middle of the screen.
If you click on one of the updates on the right, it will expand and you can see the whole message + all the comments attached.

If I wanted to see the same information, I can look at my newsfeed.

Not exactly sure what Facebook is trying to accomplish with this new “instant newsfeed”. It seems to me the already existing ‘Most Recent’ Newsfeed is exactly the same thing. If anything it’s cleaner, and I’m hoping they’ll replace the old newsfeed with the newer one. But, I don’t think it’s necessary to have both next to each other.
Anyone have any logical explanations for the Facebook addition?
Update:
My “instant” newsfeed has since disappeared from the right hand side of my screen. Wonder if it will be back…
