SOCIAL MEDIA + YOU

One day Social Media sites took over the Internet. I'm just doing my best to make sense of it all.

Facebook announced earlier this week that they’re going to slowly roll out a new navigation side bar, along with some other structural changes. Some of you may have gotten it, most have not yet.

Your left hand sidebar (under your default photo) is re-ordered into 4 different groups:

  1. Favorites - the news feed, messages, events and friends
  2. Apps - game requests and app requests
  3. Pages - the pages you access most often
  4. Groups - the groups you access most often

I think Facebook is trying to make your pages, games, apps, etc. more accessible.

In the old navigation, ‘more’ was displayed and you could see a full list of navigable apps. Now, ‘more’ is hidden and can be accessed when hovering over the menu bar. A swift click of the button and you are taken to a ‘favorites’ page where you can add all the pages and groups you like the most.

It’s a simple interface design change, but everything Facebook does is for a reason. We’ll see how long this change lasts.

Have you been given access to the new navigation bar, do you like the changes?
