SOCIAL MEDIA + YOU

One day Social Media sites took over the Internet. I'm just doing my best to make sense of it all.

Facebook announced on their blog yesterday that the popular social media site is going to start rolling out a myriad of privacy and sharing options. The changes should help users control what information they share with whom on the internet.

Easier Privacy Controls

Now you will be able to control what content on your profile is shared with whom with a drop down menu displaying: public, friends, or custom. Before, you had to click through a few pages before you could find these options, now they’re easier to see.

Control Who Tags You In What

Now you’ll be prompted to approve all the posts that others try to tag you in - giving you the option to approve or reject a photo before it becomes visible to your friends.

Content Tag Review

Before, anyone you are friends with could tag you in any post. Now you get to approve or reject that as well.

What Does My Profile Look Like To Him/Her?

You’ve always been able to see what your profile looks like in someone else’s eyes, but it was hard to find. Now this feature will be displayed on your profile page and you’ll have the option to see what content specific friends can see on your profile.

Sharing Options - Where Do Your Posts Go?

This will probably be everyone’s favorite addition, and I’m assuming this is in answer to Google+’s Circles. Now you’ll have the option to control with whom your status updates, photos, videos, etc. are shared. A drop down menu will appear and you’ll have the chance to share it with friends, everyone, or a custom list of individuals you choose.

They’re also adding an “edit post” option. Before you were locked into that spelling mistake, now you’ll be able to edit the post anytime after pushing enter.

Tag Locations In Your Posts

You’ve been able to “check-in” to locations for awhile, now you can tag locations in your posts.

Remove Content From Facebook For Good

If someone tags you in a post and you’re not happy about it you’ll be given the option to remove the tag, ask the person to remove the photo, or block the person who tagged you. This just gives you a little more control of content on Facebook that may not belong to you, but contains your personal properties.

Are you happy with these new changes, is there anything you wish Facebook had included?
